Analyzing file for threats
A simple, free way to check if a file is safe
Virus Purge is a free online antivirus scanner that lets you upload any file from your computer and instantly check whether it contains viruses, malware, trojans, ransomware, spyware, or other malicious content. There is nothing to install. There is no account required. You drag the file, the scanner reads it, and within seconds you get a verdict.
The scanner is built on a continuously updated antivirus engine that recognises millions of known malware signatures. Behind the simple interface, every uploaded file is inspected by signature matching, heuristic rules, and — for archives — deep extraction so the files inside can be scanned individually. If anything dangerous is found, the result page tells you exactly what was detected so you can investigate further.
We built Virus Purge because casual users should not have to install heavy desktop software or upload sensitive files to opaque third-party services just to answer a simple question: is this file safe to open? Whether you have received an unexpected email attachment, downloaded an installer from an unfamiliar site, or copied a document from a USB drive, a 10-second scan is the cheapest and easiest first line of defence.
Any file type
Executables, PDFs, Word docs, scripts, images, installers — drop any file and we'll inspect it. No file-type restriction.
Archive deep-scan
Recursively unpacks ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR, and GZ archives and scans every file inside, including nested archives — free for all users.
Private by design
Uploaded files are processed in memory, scanned, and immediately deleted. We do not retain file contents after the scan.
Independent second opinion
Even if you already run a local antivirus, a second engine catches what a single engine sometimes misses. Defence in depth, in one click.
Clear verdicts
Each scan returns a plain CLEAN, INFECTED, or ERROR result — along with the name of any threats detected, so you can research them.
REST API for developers
Premium users get a personal API key and can integrate file scanning into their own application. See the docs for code samples.
